Elegant, Comfortable, and Child-Friendly in the Heart of the Palisades.
A young couple with a toddler and baby on the way asked me to finish an extensive design project in time for the new baby’s arrival. This included the backgrounds, paint, carpets, built-in kitchen banquette, window treatments, and all furniture.
Their prime goal was a home that was both elegant and family friendly for both adult entertaining and children’s play, meaning both beautiful and durable furnishings. We created a children’s playroom in a former downstairs bedroom, complete with rubber “wood” flooring. The flooring provided safety and durability and blended with the beautiful hardwood floors of the adjacent living, dining, and family rooms. Importantly, the playroom was visible from the kitchen.
Another room was designated the nursery; however, the couple wanted to be surprised by the baby’s gender, which I knew because of an ultrasound provided by the obstetrician. In order to maintain the secret, we selected furnishings for both a boy’s and a girl’s room, then I quietly ordered the gender-appropriate furnishings. I had to be so careful not to give away the secret!
